We announced to our colleagues today that part of our commitment to investing in our people will soon include being a Real Living Wage Employer.

The National Living Wage is currently £8.91 for adults aged 23+ years. However, according to the Real Living Wage Foundation:

This wage is not calculated according to what employees and their families need to live. Instead, it is based on a target to reach 66% of median earnings by 2024. The government minimum takes into account what is affordable for businesses.

The Real Living Wage Foundation sets the true figure at £9.90 (or £11.05 for people living in London).

To become an accredited Real Living Wage Employer, we are committing to:

  • Paying the Real Living Wage to all our directly employed colleagues.
  • Have a plan to pay our contractors the Real Living Wage.

Sarah Dewar, our Chief People Officer said:

Investing in our colleagues is a key part of our organisational ‘Shaping Our Future‘ strategy. Becoming a Real Living Wage Employer is just one way that we are supporting our colleagues during such a challenging time. We’re here to make sure no one struggles alone – and that includes our colleagues.
