One of our Community Support Workers, Colin Mallen, is cycling across the US on a fundraising trip.
Colin, who is a Community Support Worker in our Housing with Care and Support service, is cycling 4,228 miles across the US over 39 days.
The journey will take Colin through Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Chicago, Kentucky, Virginia and finishing in Washington DC.
Colin is taking part in this challenge to raise money for CRY, a charity that supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families who are affected by cardiac conditions.
Colin is fundraising for CRY after experiencing cardiac problems himself. After his health problems, Colin used cycling to as part of his recovery to improve his physical and mental wellbeing’.
Colin said: “My mental health was really impacted due to the issues but during my recovery I used exercise and cycling as a way to help get back to normal.
“I could have died in my 40s and CRY is such a great charity which helps prevent undiagnosed heart issues killing young people. They do a lot of screening and put a lot of money into vital research.”
We’re so proud of Colin and wish him luck on his epic fundraising challenge!
