Values in Practice
There are 3 main supports in place to help staff put the values base into practice;
Needs based assessment and comprehensive needs based assessment which recognises peoples ‘wants’.
Positive audit and feedback; For example ‘Balance of Care’ audit which addreses issues such as links from assessment to support plans. It promotes clarity of language and user involvement. It facilitates the ordinary needs and aspirations of service users, ensuring their fulfilment and spiritualality are addressed alongside their mental health problems
Supervision and appraisal; The organisation has produced a comprehensive position paper to shape the supervision of the workforce. Each location has used this, through workshops, to create their own supervision packs. These give a structure which describes how staff can be helped to develop the necessary skills and attitudes.
This support forms part of an overall strategy aimed at enabling staff to work alongside people with mental health problems as they go about their day to day lives. This means helping service users establish routines of activity and rest, express their individuality clearly and creatively and feel valued as a person and as part of a group.
