Values training for staff
Staff are encouraged to develop the idea of ‘working towards ordinary lives’ through various training activities and policy guidance.
Our training activities include:
Induction Training; which introduces the importance of a values base to our practice. Induction training also shows how our values base influences not only our day to day work but also many of the policies and procedures which guide this.
‘Core Training’; an accredited 2 day course which aims to give participants a clear understanding of the values base and how it can be put into practice. These sessions underpin several core concepts we believe are important to mental health workers. Sessions include:
Protection of Vulnerable Adults
Values and Attitudes in Practice
Risk Taking
Communication
Self Care for Staff
Challenging Behaviours; our training in Challenging Behaviours is founded on the beliefs that:
Behaviour is an expression of need
An increased understanding of peoples needs will help us respond positively to them
Increased understanding of peoples needs and an ability to respond positively to them will reduce the need for people to behave in a ‘challenging’ manner.
The importance of staff attitudes is emphasised in this training as this is seen as crucial to the development of an environment where people feel their needs are recognised.
As an organisation we believe that our values base should be evident in as much of the policy guidance produced for staff as is possible. We believe this is recognisable in such policies as;
Risk Taking
Challenging Behaviours
Protection of Vulnerable Adults
Medication
