Dementia care services : for people with dementia and related conditions. These are provided through;

Respite and Assessment

A flexible service offering regular and emergency respite for those with dementia and their carers. This service also offers outreach support for carers providing advice and resources on coping with complex needs.

24 Hour Dementia Care

People using these services have severe dementia and require ongoing skilled nursing care. This care is provided in small, domestically equipped environments with a focus on ordinary needs as well as mental health and medical needs.

The main features of the dementia care services are;

The provision of social & fulfillment opportunities e.g.

Promoting effective communication with others
Maintaining links with the local community
Preserving family and other relationships important to the person
Meaningful activities including personal interests

The provision of psychological care e.g.

Emotional support
Interpreting and meeting needs that can be expressed through challenging behaviours.
Validation of life experience

The provision of physical care e.g.

Therapeutic risk taking to promote and maintain living skills
Help with all aspects of personal care including dietary, continence, hygiene and mobility needs.

Alderwood
Alderwood provides a 24 hour nursing service, specialising in meeting the individual needs of residents who suffer from severe mental health problems. The unit provides three distinct services; Dementia Care Respite & Assessment Supportive Rehabilitation




Briarwood
Briarwood provides a 24-hour nursing service, specialising in meeting the individual needs of residents who suffer from severe mental health problems. Briarwood offers two distinct services; “The Meadows” providing dementia care “Mill View” providing supportive rehabilitation




Pinetree Lodge
Pinetree Lodge provides a 24-hour nursing service in 3 units for residents who suffer from severe mental health problems. Pinetree specialises in meeting the emotional and physical needs of people in late stage dementia. The involvement of families and carers is encouraged to help staff build up an in-depth knowledge of residents and their needs.
